My OH has graduated with an honours degree but is struggling to find a job  (he works but not in a job with any future). He is now thinking about starting a plumbing course in his desperation to start some sort of career. Does anyone know if it a good avenue to go down?

A few years back I could not find one - now I know 5 and they always have time. Honours in what, as my friends son want to do paleontology at uni - now when was the las time you saw a job advertised for that?
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

Now may well be the time to plod on with a job that pays the bills, developing further skills and even getting more qualifications in his spare time. That way he will be ready to take advantage of any future upturn with a good work record and a history of investing in himself.
The construction industry has been hit hard by the economic situation and plumbers are not as much in demand as they once were, particularly when they have only minimal qualifications.0 -
I graduated as a plumber about a year and a half ago and went self-employed, because there was no chance of me finding employment with a company.
I've had work most of the time, but it's been very difficult - I've had to put in low quotes in the hope of getting work and my name known in the area.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend it because of the shortage of work. People say to me that it's a very safe line of work because "people will always need plumbers", but if there's not enough work to go round you won't earn enough to live on.
Also, when people say plumbers charge whatever they want, that's the CORGI plumbers. It usually takes four years to get to that stage.
I hope this helps.0 -

Thank you for your replies...OH has decided against it now because he needs to start a career that has some security (if that exists these days :rotfl:) and will pay the bills.0
