In a career pickle

Hello
I'm a bit stuck on a decision so wondered if I could get an opinion from anyone to help me out.
I'm currently in a job with a very good benefits package, and a good salary. The job itself isn't that exciting, but it's with a biggish company and I feel "stable" there.
I have been offered a job with a company I went for an interview for at the same time I was being interviewed for the job I'm in now - they originally turned me down but 2 months down the line they've realised that I'd be worth taking on board, which is a very nice feeling but leaves me in somewhat of a dilemma. The job offered would suit me very well and if they had offered when I first went for an interview, then I would have taken it without question. Now I'm faced with these problems:
- This would be the 3rd job move in 5 months (the other 2 were for very legitimate reasons)
- The company is smaller so I'm not sure if stability in this "economic climate" is in danger there
- They have no benefits at all to offer. They have said that they will match the benefits with a salary increase - which I have put to them but it was a little too much. If I took it then it would be a salary increase, but there would be no benefits and overall I'd possibly be worse off financially.
So that, in summary, is my problem. Nice problem to have, but it's causing me a bit of stress trying to work out what to do.
Aanyone who can help me out here will get about a million gold stars cos I just don't know what to do
Thanks! P

I'd say as long as you stay long term at the new job it wont look too bad on your CV
Just consider
a) which will make you happier
b) which is more likely to survive the current climate0 -
I agree with Poker Face. There don't appear to be many advantages to changing career at this stage, especially with the current state of the economy.
Good luck in whatever you decide.0 -
The job I've been offered would probably be the better working environment for me, almost definitely, but if one of them failed, then the new job is probably more likely because of it's size.
I guess my other worry is, what if it didn't work out - then I couldn't go back, I'd basically be stuck there for a few years....but then I guess if my current job is a bit boring, then that wouldn't be horrendously bad.
Oh, pulling hair out time! Completely at a loss

Personally, I would stick with the job that you are already in because it won't look good on your CV further down the line when they see that you have flitted between jobs. Also, in this current climate staying with a larger company may be less of a financial risk than moving to a smaller one.
Stick your current job for 12 months and then maybe something better will come along.
Good luck.0 -
Is the new role completely different to the current one and more what you want out of a career? As if not you're losing half your justification for moving. But if it is, then there's a legit reason for leaving your current role.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0

Maybe you should ask yourself a few questions.
You say that this company now realise that you were the best candidate for the job, why? Did they employ someone else who didn't work out?
What is so attractive about you now?
You can only answer the question yourself. I don't know how old you are, but your work record is important if you have years of employment ahead.
Do you know how well your current employer/company is performing? Do you know how the company that want you is performing?
The grass may seem greener on the other side but is it?0 -
If the job give me much better marketable skills in the future I would go. In this environment no one is safe. I feel it is better you get new skills and be employable and have opportunity, then be in a job going no where, getting no where and having no marketable skills. Generally the workforce are usually the last to know how things are going market wise.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

I too would ask the question why offer you now after two months...and what happened to the person that took on the role before you? Grass is not always greener...I speak from experience! It is flattering, yes, but don't get flattered into accepting the job. If you were that keen you would not be coming on here asking for advice. There is alot to be said for the cliche 'if in doubt, don't'. This current job climate is not one for taking risks at present so I'm afraid I'm in agreement with most of the posters to your thread. Good luck on your decision. Why did I not have the LBM years ago?LBM Dec 2008 -Debt total then £18,802.24. :eek:August 2010 - Student Loan £5526.Loan £5642 -£3000 saved towards final payment:)Balance Outstanding £8168.0
