Income Tax- Br1 and reclaim tax

I have now phoned the the inland revenue a grand total of five times and have not got anywhere with them!!

Let me tell you exactly where I am right now. First of all, im a student and in part-time employment. Last year from December to March I worked for Arcadia ( topman).. I then left that employment to work for Glasgow City Council (or as it is known- Glasgow Culture and Sport).

For the last six months I have had the Br 1 tax code on my payslips. I let it go for the first couple of payslips as i thought it would sort itself out. However, now im worrying that i'll never get my tax back.

The Inland revenue are saying that they never got a copy of the p45 sent by arcadia and so on their computers im still down as working for them. Arcadia are saying they did sent one out and wont send out duplicates. They did say that they could send me a statement of the earnings i had during time of employment there. Will I get the tax back.. its £1000 roughly im set to get back.

I have the details to get myself off the emergency tax code, Ill be able to do that, however I dont know if ill see any money back..

Any help to this distressed user would be amazing.. cheers

if your tax code at arcadia was correct then you will be owed no tax refund for 2007-2008 ..what was it.

Once you are put on a 603L code for this year (i.e. in time for your march pay ) then your tax for this tax year will be refunded automatically.

    HI,
If you are having such a problems with Arcadia and their P45, then a form request a P46 "employee without P45" from your current employer, comlete it and once they submitt that, the HM Revenue should issue you with new tax code..

Once this tax code will be issued, then the payroll system will calculate the tax overpaid/underpaid and you should get that refunded in your "wages"..
However that is only for this tax year - April 08 - 5th April 09, if it doesn't get sorted by this time then BOTH your employers will have to submitt P60 to HM Revenue, stating how much tax have you paid in that year and then HM Revenue will refund you by cheque payment...
This though can take quite a long time..
