I personally wouldnt touch mcafee with a bargepole. And I believe 'some' free alternatives would be far better (I use them anyways)
Lets just try 2 more things ~
Download CCLEANER (Top right)
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the top 2 scans (Backup the registry when it asks)
Download GLARY UTILITIES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')
http://www.download.com/Glary-Utilities/3000-2094_4-10508531.html
Run the ONE CLICK scan
if those dont fix your shutdwon problem, it might be worth removing mcafee to see if thats whats effecting it (Every chance):idea:0 -
Thanks, will try that in a sec.
btw there are 3 plugins located here: C:\DOCUME~1\Mark\LOCALS~1\Temp\plugtmp which seemed to be causing issues. do you think i should delete these.0 -
I dont see any harm in deleting those:idea:0

All done, thanks - just going to try shutting down. fingers crossed!0 -
Still not shutting down :-(
Does it really matter if I shutdown using the button?
Just going to try disabling McAfee to see if it works. Do you know how to disable it so I don't have to delete it?
Thanks0 -

As I hate mcafee with a vengence im not too well up on it im afraid. Also, sometimes just disabling something doesnt ALWAYS clear the problem
Right click the icon botton right and try and disable whatever you can find with mcafee
If you DO uninstall it, make sure you use the removal tool

If you do uninstall ~
If it fixes the problem then clearly you need other protection (Or if you feel you need a change) ~
Download PC TOOLS FIREWALL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')

Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Top right)

Rhanks again for the efforts, but McAfee isn't the problem :-(
PS -Should I be doing the windows update every few months?
Thx0 -
If you goto MY COMPUTER and right click, the windows updates SHOULD be on auto update (In which case you shouldnt really need to go to it direct)
A yellow shield comes up bottom right whenever its searching for/downloading or installing updates
The fact malwarebytes also doesnt install suggests some conflicting problem somewhere
And as ive already said, mcafee MAY be interfering with your computer even when disabled
Might be worth going to windows update again though and going to CUSTOM and selecting some of the hardware and software updates that might apply (Ive no idea what you have so dont know what options youll have):idea:0 -
malware now running ok &...........no problems!!! :-)
