Thanks, though that will surely only apply to the information 192 hold, and still appears to make a mockery of the privacy option on our council tax information forms.

It is at least a start, I'm contacting our local council tomorrow to see what explanation they've got for this information on the electoral role being so freely available. Like you say it makes a complete mockery of the Data Protection Act.
If I have been of any assistance, or my information is useful, please press the "Thanks" button :)
  • According to Wikipedia, you can opt-out of having your details available on the Electoral Register, or at least the version that anyone can get hold of. I don't know how you'd go about having that happen, though. Probably best to contact your local council.

I think it's appalling that anyone can look at this information.

Maybe your right Judge, and I know I can be a bit of a drama queen, but what if someone gets these details and thinks it is my husband when it's not?! Also - why am I not showing? Am I really dead? :D

Tell me about it! My husband was mortified! Because this guy actually lives near us, there've been a few people who've (jokingly I hope) asked my husband, that's not you is it? :D

Good find. I was able to check that my policy of as near total invisibility on the web as is possible is still working.
Nothing for me except an old phone book entry - I WISH i could get rid of that too.

There is no such thing as 'unlimited access' you pay credits for each search your perform.

Very scary. But I'm pleased to say that it didn't find me.
