jjb gyms anyone know what they like??

Anyone know what jjbfitness gyms are like?
I`m currently a member of fitnessfirst and i want to change as it never seams to be cleaned.

What sort of prices do jjb charge and do they negotiate, i remember when i joined fitnessfirt the sales guy was desperate to sign people up everytime i said no he kept knocking a few quid of the price.to get me to sign there and then.

Also i noticed that jjb is offering 12 months for price of 10 if you pay upfront, is this a good or bad idea, isn`t jjb in trouble financially i dont want to loose a years gym fees if they go bust?

If you're worried about losing the money, pay for it on your credit card, it will be more than £100 so you're covered if they do go bust. Cant help you with the rest of your questions though i'm afraid.

I had a trial free week once at the Kidderminster one, a while back but it was nice there, clean and good amounts of cardio equipment.

Cant recall prices but back then Im sure they did a minimum 6 month membership not 12 so might be an option if still available?

There was a voucher in some magazine a while back for a free trial week but ends next weekend, Ive still got it somewhere but not enough time to post to you if it was of help. Ive not had chance to use it.

Id ask for a trial visit so you can see what its like.

Hi, I use the jjb gym in Swindon and it is very clean. I also find that the monthly charge isn't too bad compared with others in the area.
JJB is in trouble but I heard that it's the retail arm that's affected and the gym side of things are separate therefore not at risk.
Before we joined the staff were more than happy to show us around and chat without the hard sell - probably worth popping in for a visit - might help you make your mind up.
  • Hi I have been a member of JJB gym for 13 months now and really pleased. I pay £26 per month for off peak membership, my husband pays £37 for regular membership.

I have just been this afternoon and there is an offer on starting next week, Thurs I think for 'no joining fee' and if you are recommeded by a friend who is already a menber they get a free months fees paid.

Always clean and warm changing rooms, plus machinery well maintained and plenty of it.

    I'd recommend JJB anytime!

    Good Luck

My OH uses the one in Swindon too - & no complaints except he forgot it shuts early yesterday & was cross as he only managed a 45min workout!!

JJB are desperately trying to offload their gyms to keep the rest of the business afloat so it's quite possible that they will be under new management in the near future.

Goining to the gym is kinda a leisure thing not just exercise, and who wants to cycle n run outside in winter.

I shall keep a look in my local paper see if they got the offer on too

I did recreational running for yonks, marathons half marathons this was in the eighties.
Never did go to a gym.
The local athletic club was enough £7 a year, lots of company, lots of competition, no fighting to keep your place like in a football team.
The club run consisted of the slowest running going off first (in a group) then two minutes later the next fastest, then the above average, and then the elite.
The only other cost was petrol share to an event, i.e. if you entered otherwise next to nothing cost per year and fit as a fiddle.
Warm up, run at a regular pace according to distance and ability and then warm down and up the pub later.
Except the elite, they never drank.
