Tax Self Assessment - Professional Fees

I have been completing my self assessment online and I can't find the section to complete details for professional fees paid. It was easy to find last year but seems to have vanished. The pdf document that is supposed to "help" refers to box 19, but this doesn't exist and the boxes aren't numbered this year. Anyone any ideas???

If you are referring to "Professional Fees and Subscriptions" as an Employment Expense, there is a box 19 in the "Employment" supplementary section of the return.
".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."
  • There was someone else saying this the other day - and it turned out certain boxes were not showing up online, this one included. If you look on the hmrc website it will show you a pdf document with all pages of the return on - you can then compare this to what you see online and then you will know if this is the same for you too. If so then ring HMRC.....

I should have said that I found the "Box 19" on a commercial package - not on the HMRC's own system.

As mrsmyagi says above you can find it on the Employment Supplementary Pages - SA102 at -

  • Thanks, Box 19 is definitely not there - I searched through the whole thing for ages. It must be missing from their version. I will speak to HMRC to see how I can get it into my return using their software then.
  • You need to tell the system that you incurred busines expenses which were not reimbursed by your employer. Shown in the demo below, at the bottom of the page:

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/demo/individual/self-assessment/tailor-your-return/employments/507.html

It will then add this section to the return for your completion:

  • Just an observance on this one,

the way screens look and menus function can be very very different depending on what browser you are using, internet explorer, firefox, mozilla, chrome etc etc etc and again different versions can cause some facilities to not function or not appear.

I havenot checked but it's worth looking to see what HMRC recommend thier site to be viewed with.

    just a thought
