Corus set to cut 2,000 jobs in UK (corus is a subsidiary of Tata steel )
looks like they are cutting 10% of their uk workforce. but overall it is more than 50% uk job losses as a share of their total cuts today. wonder if it is something to do with regard to the carbon credits scheme making it costlier for them to do business here in the uk apart from the general downturn. i remember reading something about Tata grumbling about the carbon credits being the reason why they were considering gearing down corus in the uk.

Llanwern is the blot on the landscape for the Ryder Cup at the nearby Celtic Manor. Wouldn't it be 'convenient' if it were to suffer in the announcement tomorrow morning.

Not this year I shouldn't think. Possibly not next year either although perhaps things could be starting to stabilise by the end of next year.

Middlesbrough's Evening Gazette report made me chuckle despite the gloomy story. He (managing director Jon Bolton) said while the new owners could not give cast iron guarantees about future staffing levels, there would be no impact on jobs as part of the 2,500 cuts announced by Corus today.
