landline and internet help to reduce bills

Hi can someone help me please with phone costs. I really need to keep my landline phone as I have the red button alert for my mobility problems, I am studying with OU so I need to study the current economy conditions, I need to reply to emails and submit atm's to university. It is not possible for me to visit local library, to make use off free internet services, to save money because of my remote area or with my disability. I am currently held to March with dreaded BT who are trying every trick in the book to charge for a few things which i have currently made a complaint about and contacted Ofcom to raise these issues. I think they are possible throttling the life out of me as when i go on to check news reports I am stuck fast and not able to go on and have to leave. I have land line currently with talk talk which I would like to take back to BT with looking at the main forum getting option 1, and then look for a cheaper service. I do not download music just forms or this for my course. Who is good for me to change or try. I see BT are doing away woth family and friends and increasing the line rental by £1.00. Any suggestions how I can limit my out lay on phone services, considering I need it for emergency and for my course and have a mobility problem and not in town area. Thanks you help is appreciated, I live in N Ireland and broadband is available despite I am on the outskirts of the exchange.
