warranty question

Hi,

Bought my mum a kenwood food mixer for xmas. She has used it a few times but when she went to use it last weekend it would not work. It has been working and stopping since then.

She returned it to argos yesterday with the receipt and got a replacement.

What i was wondering was, does she now have a 12 month warranty on the replacement mixer from yesterdays date?

Also, can she take out the optional extended warranty offerd by argos if it works out at a fair price?

The 12 month warranty starts again when it is replaced.

You can purchase extended warranty up to 45 days after the original date of purchase.

Are you sure? I have been told many times (possibly incorrectly) that the warranty period is only valid from the time the original item was purchased. You only really get a 30 days extension if you are coming to the end of the warranty period (again as far as I have been told).

    From the terms and conditions:

If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.

Note, that it's referring to length of time the person has had the product, not the amount of time that has passed since they purchased it.

But that could easily be referring to the original item, not the replacement. Can you cite any source that explicitly states that the warranty period begins anew with the replacement? I may need to be armed with a 100% solid source myself soon.

Personally I've always been under the impression that the guarantee starts again when we replace the item...so that's what I do!!

  • The guarantee will 'restart' if you get a new warranty, from the manufacturer

Of course, you're still covered under statute, with the Sale of Goods Act

Guarantees and warranties are different things , guarantees are free and warranties are normally paid for as extended warranties. (please dont come back stating laws and acts as this is just an easy way to explain and not indepth!!)

Anyway, with a guarantee it starts again from the date the item was replaced.

  • I had a watch replaced and they wrote on the receipt that it had been replaced and the date. I asked the lady who replaced it and she confirmed the warranty would start again
