    Well done Omar! :T

I'm just starting to sort my financial mess out so I'm beginning with a debt of around £29,100. I've sent all my letters off to creditors and am waiting for my CCCS pack to come through to start setting up payment to them each month.

    Hi Omar

How long have you been plugging away at your debts?

I'm more or less the same as reaver in that I've only just started (seriously) on the DF journey, having tried a number of times before. My main aim it to clear my credit cards, which are K£20+. I also have a loan, but I'm pretty sure that will be cleared before the cards!

I love to read of other peoples successes, it gives me the inspiration to carry on.

    Thanks for your post.

When I first came across this site I was nearly £19,000 in debt. Now down to £15,000 but would have been more if I hadn't got pregnant and gone part time. Oops! :rotfl:

Hope to be debt free by the time I'm 40!

  • Hi everyone,

I have only just realised in the last few days that our debts are horrendous, and desperately want to become debt free.....

Our biggest debt is our overdraft, completely maxxed at £25,000 :o

We have a further £8,000 of debts, made up of credit cards and catalogues, I hope to clear these off first, then start plugging away at reducing the overdraft! I am hoping that by being a lot more aware of what we spend, and by putting any spare money into our debts, I hope to have paid off at least £6,000 by the end of this year.

It is very inspirational to read everyone else's post here on the forum, and really gives me motivation to try and deal with our situation! You guys are great :D

  • i was about £5400 in debt when first found this site April '08, just by making some small changes, watching my money, and general good moneysaving advice this is now down to £2000 !!
£5000 debt cleared thanks to MSE advice :money:
  • Hey

Have also just started but feeling motivated that if i pay 300 mth towards debts and save/work my butt off with any money i have left for 5 yrs (need to save about 11k arghhhhh) i can pay of 25k and try and get teh 8k left off in f&f offers. Thereby being debt free by oct 2016!!!!! That is good as i was with a debt agency (fee paying) which would have taken 20yrs (had been with them a year so in all fairness only 19yrs left  ) on my own that is only 7yrs. So i will be almost 35 - and still young enough to save and get a mortage i hope lol. I'll have 6 years to save that 300mth before i can even think about getting credit ha ha. Just thinking though 7yrs i'll have a hefty 25k deposit plus extra as i'll be so used to working - o thats enough lol i'm getting carried away
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

    Hi,

I started on this site 4 years ago when I dropped from a full time job earning £28,000 to a part time job on a salary of £8,000 pa. I was in a state of panic as to how we would survive. Our debts were as follows:-

    £38,000 mortgage
£12,000 personal loan (mainly for a car and a rolled over balance from previous car)

Now have a mortgage of £30,600
£12,000 personal loan now down to £6000 - this will be paid of in 21 months

Sadly we are just taking out a further loan for £6000 to fund a new car for OH. We do know, however, that our income is going to increase by £150 per month in June when OH stops paying child maintenance. This will fund the new loan.

3 months ago I was made redundant and decided that with careful budgeting I could retire altogether and be a full time housewife. I love it!

Thanks to this site, I feel that I am in control of our finances and get the very best from what we have. Our standard of living is infinitely better than 4 years ago. We have everything we need and most of what we want.

THANKS to Martin and to all of you who have given advice, help and support during the 4 years. I could not have done it without you :j :j :j
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend
