Titles says it all really.....am thinking it would be quicker (and cheaper) if I could make either fruit pies or meat pies this way - using cooked filling obviously - anyone tried this?

I don't think so.... the outside of the pastry would burn from contact with hot plates and it wouldn't cook properly.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
I don't see why not - it can't be all that different to the pie makers that you used to be able to buy. Did a google and came up with this:

I've done it before, it's a long time ago but i think I made fruit turnover type things, and I think something like a cornish pastie. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn. The pastry does cook properly. I used shortcrust pastry. HTHSealed Pot Challenge member 28

You learn something new every day. I'd be tempted to dig mine out and try it if I didn't have a remoska.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

I might give this a go, as I unearthed my unused sandwich toaster the other day and wondered what OS thing to do with it (other than toast sandwiches which Im obviously not doing having forgotten about it!)
Might try jam filled pastry first. Pop tarts!!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -

Any idea on timings? I'm assuming it'd take rather longer than the three minutes a toasted sandwich takes.Resolution:
