Overtime

Were i work,
When i was taken on part of my contract said you have to work 2 weekends out of every 4 paid at time and half witch i did not mind as it was extra money in the pocket for me.
At the beginning of Jan we were told all overtime will be paid at normal time for the forcible future (the company is busy but protecting themselves in case work dies off)
As you can understand most who did overtime are now refusing to work overtime unless they get time and half witch the company is not happy about, but i was wondering because in my contract it says time and half can my employee make me work overtime at normal time ?
Just now it's voluntary to do overtime but because no body is working it, there threatening to make it compulsive to work overtime at normal rate.
Am i right in thinking if you signed for time and half for overtime, if they insist you work for normal time is it in my rights to refuse ?

Thanks for your help in advance

I guess it would be your right to refuse.

In my case the weekend work is being automated meaning staff will not have to come in at weekends. And I'm therefore preparing myself for losing the £125 p/m shift allowance.

I just take the view I'd rather lose £125 then lose my job.

Also, I'm not an employer but I would have thought notice would have been taken of which staff were prepared to compromise and work with their company at a time like this. I don't know what your employer is like and how they have treated staff in the past but if you can afford the drop in pay it's up to you to decide if you think it's better to work with them rather then against them.
  • Most of the staff have refused to do overtime now, but the employer is not happy about it.
Myself i have carried on with the overtime but on my terms like this weekend i decided to have the first weekend off in a very long time but somebody was talked in to covering my shift so all is well.
Most of the employee's are taking the attitude that if nobody will work weekends then our employer will have to bring time and half back.
The company is still making a good profit, but you never know when things will change
