Contracts, salary and sick pay-can anyone help me?

Hi there, I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong bit but I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find the answer to. I have been working as a nursery nurse for about 3and a half years in a nursery in Aberdeen. During this time, I have done my training and I run a busy department with 25 kids aged between 18 months and 3 years. My boss has always reffered to myself(and the others who run other departments) as a supervisor. I have only just recieved a contract after asking weekly for one for almost a year and it says that my title is "senior nursery nurse". Is this right? There are others with the same job title with less responsibility at my work.

My other question is: if you are on a salary, does that mean that if you are off sick you still get paid your monthly salary or is your employer alowed to not pay you for the first 3 days you are off then statutory sick pay after that?

Thanks for listening to my rant.

  • Re the job title - it's largely immaterial, unless there's a formal structure which and a clear career path. You may have the same title as others, but have greater responsibilities - but perhaps you're being paid more? Difficult to comment without understanding the size of the organisation and the structure. As an example my title is "Manager" but I don't manage anyone - I'm a team of one!

You have no automatic entitlent to receive your normal salary when you're off sick. What does the contract say?

The second part of your question is correct - if there's nothing in your contract your employer only has to pay you nothing for the first three days and SSP thereafter.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
