Can I open a Post Office Savings account for my 2 year old?

Hello all :D

Hope all the regulars are well, and to anyone new, welcome to a place that literally 'saved me' this time last year.

I went BR in March 08 and I got ED in October :T . My 2 year old got a cheque at Christmas and I was wondering if I will be able to open a Post Office National Savings account for her? I know it will have her name on it, but I will have to open it on her behalf because she's under 7......

I don't want to put the money in her Child Trust Fund because the last time I looked, it had lost money..

Thanks for any advice MC X

Yes, we opened Post Office Savings accounts for our 2 children (5 and 1 at the time) last year. I think all they asked for was a birth certificate. Like you, we've been putting cash gifts from relatives in them. The older one is saving up for a DS (if I can't win her one first), and she is nearly there now. I think it's a good idea to start to teach them about saving like this.

cant see it being a problem...afterall you dont need to contact the OR now since you've been discharged...only thing is if they credit check & it flags up your name & BR although depending on you go with it may be fine although they would probably want a copy of your discharge cert to confirm your discharge.......sainsbusys do an online saver account they dont credit check but do ask for a copy of your discharge paperwork
