Birmingham Midshires - releasing Policy documents

Received a letter from them out of the blue advising they are looking to release my policy documents to me and they will waive the normal fee. The letter says this will give me "increased control over my financial affairs", but I can't help feel like I'm being stitched up in some way..! Can anyone explain what they're doing and why?
