    Hi

  • Registering as self-employed in a must if you're earning any more, don't forget that £20 a week amounts to £1040 a year! (£50 a week =£2600 oooh! )

The self employed Inland revenue people are very friendly and easy to ask questions of. I hadn't considered the potential money involved in ironing - if only I enjoyed doing it :rotfl:

I'm registered self-employed, pay my NI contributions (which in turn paid my maternity leave last year) and don't earn enough after all the sums to pay tax, but without doing it all properly, I'd be stuffed by tax credits, who want to know every penny is right.

HI i been reading this thread with great interest, i would love to work from home, so would my two daughters, im wondering if there is a big enought call for it in the area. we would love to set up a business together i surpose we could do it in our spare time and see if there is a big enough call for it,, food for thought,

Food for thought: OH works in a very "ordinary" type an office with 6 others. He is the only who doesn't employ an ironing "lady". Both my sis and mum have ironed professionally and have had to turn clients away. There's certainly a call for it, and as fairylights said, registration with the authorities is straightforward. Go for it!

Only point I would add, is that if I were to pay someone to do my ironing I would expect pure perfection to come back, I guess because I want it to be better than I can do. Where as with my cleaner, I just want a hand in getting the chores done.
  • You will need to invest in a huge supply of hangers or get people to send them with their clothes

Obviously, you need to be reliable and smoke free at home as well

I know loads of people who send it out

Personally I do 5-6 hours of ironing a week so could not afford to send it out

Just as well that I enjoy ironing

I have my ironing done - they charge £15 this is upto and including 30 items. Everything is classed a single item except single bedding/tablecloths(4), double bedding (5) and king size bedding (6).

A man collects on a Tuesday morning and drops off on Wednesday evening - I have to send the hangers, if I don't send enough, they fold the items.

I live in the North West and would guess like many other trades, different areas can charge different prices.

I sometimes have more than 30 items, however if I can get 95% of it done elsewhere then so be it!! No more playing jenga when I want something out of the ironing cupboard!!

    Hope that helps. :)
