I do get rid of novels I know I won't read again but some I do go back to and things like Terry Prachett books will be read by all five of us, and my parents eventually so no way should those be got rid of !

First bookcase from the left, second shelf down. That's our Terry Pratchett shelf! We actually had 3 sets of Pratchett for a while! When I split with my ex, he left his Pratchett books and I still had my ones, then when hubby and I moved in together, his were added to the collection. We've slimmed them down now thanks to Freecycle!0 -
Gigervamp - Oh, what a lovely collection. Can I come and stay in your house for a week during the cold wet winter. I could settle in an armchair with that lot for the duration without bothering to surface for food.:rotfl: Over the years I've collected virtually all the R.F. Delderfield books. Most of them are out of print now but I enjoy re-reading them. Every time I have a book clearout my hand hovers over carrier bag but they always get a reprieve.0

Wow gigervamp I'd like to browse through your bookshelves...I love to see books in a home, it seems to lack personality without them.0

I'm an avid reader...always have been. I buy books & read them over and over again, been collecting them all my life. I read books that nobody else would be seen dead with -- like all the FuManchu ones, John Wyndham, the Bony books, and I love Sherlock Holmes .
I can sit here immersed in Bony and be IN the australian outback, under the searing sun, listening to the galahs in the trees...or be in Baker St sat at the fire in a London pea souper listening to Holmes . Pure escape, and we all need an escape !0 -
Another crazy reader here too
. I could read before starting school and always got books for presents (or book tokens) and was always a member of the library from 7 (youngest age allowed for your own ticket back in the 50's). They used to tell me off for getting books out in the morning and trying to take them back in the afternoon.
We have a bookcase of reference books in the living room, another one of novels in the bedroom, another full of OH's books (art, travel, biographies, music, movies) in the spare bedroom and another one of craft books stashed in what is supposed to be my work office.
I love a good murder mystery, but not too keen on agatha christie. Adore Sherlock Holmes - have the full collection, also love the Frost novels, Dalziel and Pascoe, Midsomer Murders, Kathy Reichs and Victorian gothic novels (sheridan le fanu, edgar allan poe etc). On the other hand, I still have lots of Enid Blyton which I tend to re-read when I'm not well - long live the Famous Five.

If my living room and kitchen are tidy when visitors arrive, I don't care how untidy my house becomes while they're here. My grandchildren get to drag out toys, books and craft work and as long as they don't deliberately do any damage I'm fine with the temporary mess.
I don't like "twiddly" ornaments so I don't have to put many things out of reach when the little dragons are here. I remember my son telling me that one of his schoolfriends wasn't allowed to eat a biscuit in the house - he had to take it out to the garden!
I clear up after visitors leave and heave a sigh of relief that I'm in my tidy zone again. I hope I'm semi-normal!
You sound like me.I love the house to look nice when people arrive and downstairs is generally pretty tidy because I have lots of storage to hide things in when the door knocks.
But once guests arrive I don't make them feel uncomfortable and don't care about the mess my girls' friends make as long as they are being respectful of my property.
I can't go to bed until the kitchen and living room are tidy as I love to get up to a tidy house and i have started putting things away in the girls' room at night when they are sleeping so that the mess doesn't build up.
I am a self confessed neat freak but it is possible to have a tidy house that is also a welcoming and happy home. :cool:0 -
I love my books too, books aren't a muddle, they're one of life's essentials!
I love the Pratchett books; I had the whole series years ago; my ds bought them all too, and my dsil also started a collection of them. We made them into one full 'family' set and freecycled the duplicates; I'm about to become the guardian of the collection - guess what I'll be reading for the next few weeks... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I love books too but I'm afraid I do not like Terry Pratchett books. OH does though and I believe he has a full collection.
In our house there are books in everyroom except the bathroom we don't use [ we have an ensuite that does have books]. I couldn't live without books. I really don't understand those who say books look untidy....I love the feel and appearance of them.We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
mine are in the big airing cupboard . Floor to ceiling , double rows and double stacked on every shelf
