Going BR without private landlord knowing

Hi,
Just a quick question. My hubbie and I are considering bankruptcy (have spoken to national debt line). We are living in a privately rented house but do not have a tenancy agreement, it was through a friend of a friend. We never see our landlord and pay by standing order on a monthly basis. We have never missed a payment and do not owe her any money.
Do you think it is likely that the OR will inform her? I am hoping we will just be able to open a new account once BR and set up new standing order. Paying the rent is our primary concern but we are not sure how she will react if she discovers we are BR.
Many thanks.

The OR usually would contact landlords BUT you can ask if they dont many users here have had no probs staying in rented property...strange you dont have a tenancy agreement though thats the first thing i'd usually advice someone to checkWe all die. As Phil says but also have you thought about putting some feelers out about how your landlord would react IF they found out your were bc. I am a great believer in being honest about such things. The last thing you want to be on tenderhooks worrying about whether you were going to get kicked out or not. Bc is nerve wracking and emotional enough as it is without having any extra worry.A lot of landlords now seem to worry more about getting their rent than whether you are bc or not. Lets face it you are in a better postion to pay your rent AFTER bc than before anyway.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Be aware, the OR may ask for a copy of your tenancy agreement - they use it to confirm that you are indeed paying the rent that you are claiming you pay.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

I too was in the same situation as yourself last year and I contacted the OR office for my area and they said without any doubt they would want to see a tenancy agreement and they would write to my LL. I could not go for BR as I would lose my tenancy without a doubt so, I explained this to CCCS and they worked out a dmp and even though it is not the amount the creditors would like it is better than nothing.
I agree with the above post that if you have no debts its better and you would have no reason to ever miss your rent but, it did not work out for us. Good luck.0 -
Even if the OR didn't inform your LL the OR puts notices in the London Gazzette and Evening Standard etc. Your Landlord could see it there anyway!0
