Part But Part Rent

In October last year i moved into a part buy part rent property the house was bought at £250,000 with my share being 25% therefore i have a £62,500 mortgage, i rang my local council i asked whether the council tax was judged on my share or the whole share of the property, they confirmed it would be on the whole property value and not my share however i recieved a letter from the council to say after a review of the property i was put into Band D.

I now do not wether to appeal to be in Band C(my share of the property) or stay silent incase i am put into Band G(total svalue of the property).

I'm no expert but look at it another way - if you rented all the property and owned 0% do you think your council tax would be nothing?
Or perhaps another way of looking at it - how much of the property do you have use of?
Council tax is based on the value of the property at a specific valuation point some years ago AFAIK, not on the proportion you "own" in a shared ownership scheme.

council tax band is based on the assumed value of the house in 1991.

what you paid for it or even if you own it, is totally irrelevant.
