Maxim 26" LCD TV - £374 @ Currys

Went into Currys at the weekend and saw this Maxim 26" LCD:

http://www.currys.co.uk:80/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0891689923.1138624714@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfladdglggdledcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&category_oid=&sku=989367&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null

It is a really great looking LCD, that seems solidly made and certainly value for money at £399. I had a play with it and it has great picture quality for the price, which is comparable to the CRT's of the same size that I was also looking at.

It has loads of inputs:

3 x Scart
1 x S-video
1 x Composite
1 x VGA
1 x DVI-I

Here are the only useful technical specs I have found so far:

1280 x 768 Resolution
500:1 Brightness

It is no world beater, but it seems a great entry-level LCD TV and it can also double as a computer monitor. It would be compatible with the Xbox 360 through the VGA socket, but I don't think it can be classified as HD-Ready.

With some codes (via Vouchers forum) I ordered online and managed to get the price down to £374 delivered (Free delivery code and £25 off £250+ spend code, exp 31/01/06). The large Currys I was in didn't have any in stock in-store.

I can't seem to find a spec sheet or manual anywhere online, but I will report what is like when it arrives next week.

Wondered about the High Definition specs??
With DVi and 1280 x 768, I think it will do the 720p High Definition picture, but not the 1080i or 1080p.
Perhaps a boffin could help us out - seems a good deal to me at £374 delivered.

I've often wondered about this. Technically speaking it is not HD-Ready, but it is capable of displaying high definition (720) resolution. To explain, it only satifies 1 of the 2 criteria it needs to display 720p. It cannot be termed as high definition as it is not a progressive scan display. The p in 720p = Progressive. However 720p's resolution is 1280 x 720. Therefore this TV is capable of displaying the HD resolution, but with an interlaced picture, making it 720i. 720i is not part of the high definition specification and hence the TV cannot be classed as high definition.

Godspeed, I saw this TV after walking from Staples to Currys. The Staples (ironically enough, at Staples Corner in London) did not have or ever seemed to have had the 26" Phocus LCD that you had described in another thread. But I have had a look at the equivalent Bush TV (same box different badge) in Argos and wasn't that impressed. This Maxim display seems to have a lot better build and picture quality. But, each to his own.

I thought i'd found a review and other info of this set but was mistaken, I then edited my thread to 'Ignore Me :)' as it was incorrect.

If you edit your thread within a certain time period it does not show up as being edited. Your free to buy a 3.5" handheld if you like I was'nt commenting on your taste :)
