Some people on other forums are there to assert their own agenda rather than help....

I am very angry and see this too often.

Often it's some rather simple request.

Rather than the financial advice they need they are dismissed rather than helped.

Just one example.

Surely this sort of "financial" disinformation helps nobody. Surely this means that overall this board does more harm than good?

I post this here because I know that this is the one small part of the board that does far more good than harm, and there are people here that might understand what i'm talking about!

Far too many judgemental post on there, hardly any constructive comments or help was offered.

I had to put a positive post on there, poor OP probably in tears with all that was thrown their way !

Like you said KMH some will probably be posting on here in the future asking for our help.
  • That's a scary thread! Makes me regret a little that I've been so open and spoken about my personal circumstances.

Thankfully everyone over here has been really nice and full of encouragement.

  • Mmm. Just to say that sometimes employees of DCAs/creditors can often come onto consumer forums - I have personally seen it happen on another related site to MSE, and it caused an awful lot of problems/upset; that and the other obvious thing being ... some of the things there were posting seemed to be taken from members own files kept by certain DCAs, the information was just specific to be random; what they would start off doing is getting friendly with the people concerned, gain their confidence then just turn nasty later ... after they had posted personal info about them; there was one instance I can think of right now where one member was targetted and it was apallingly abusive towards their disability - and behave attrociously. Having used the internet for many years now something do still surprise me but I have mostly seen all of it. So to speak.

On the more serious side. It can clearly have devastating consequences for someone who is looking for help, then is treated that way. No one can be sure what is actually going on in their lives, their emotional state, health state and so on. When you have gone everywhere for help, found there isn't any or that help simply isn't as readily available as we always assumed - CAB for example; there isn't one in my area because it closed down; along with one method of getting much sorted after help so who was I going to turn to if I didn't know whom to go to instead? - and having been on the receiving end, when I was at a very low ebb at the time of such remarks I went off and did something very foolish. Usually I won't let them get to me like that but when you are low, in desperation that is when it becomes more serious.

Edit - only to say that I will now not offer advice to people who take the 'bar stool philisophy of life' eg 'what I heard down the pub' about certain things because of their views about others in serious situations. I steer well clear because they are not deserving of it because of how they treat other people who are desperate for help. Shoe on other foot etc. When you are in need of help you should be given it, not kicked into the ground.
Call it a failing but I can't stop helping people. Who need that help. Nor will I ever will. Because, let's face it, some out there/here never get anywhere close to getting it or, whatever reasons, are denied the opportunity to receive it. I really wish I could stop helping, because it has had a detrimental impact on my life. But I believe in offering support to people who cannot fight back by themselves and need it to get their lives back on track.

Okay, sorry for the long spiel there. And it's not as I intended it to sound.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
