not sure if I am posting this in the correct part of the forum but am desperate to share some great haggling I did today that far surpassed my expectations and may be useful to anyone getting a special jewellery gift for a loved one.

I was looking for an Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster Chronograph watch (RRP £3125), did some internet checking and decided Goldsmith's was worth a try. Quidco the cashback site offers 16% cashback if you buy something from Goldsmiths through their site but I wanted to see the goods in the flesh. I didn't hold out much hope when I sdaw a woman being refused a discount on 4 necklaces while I was waiting to be served.

Watch was stunning so I began negotiations - opening offer £2500. Swiftly refused. I knew it would be but if you don't ask you don't get!

I countered with the Quidco offer and told the sales assistant that if she matched it I would buy today. After a lengthy phonecall with her regional manager she came back - never heard of Quidco, my regional manager knows everything blah blah blah. I asked her whether she would match Quidco and funnily enough even though her esteemed regional manager had never heard of it, SHE DID!!

I am chuffed! £3125 watch for £2625, and a Cartier watch cleaning kit thrown in for free ). It comes to 16% off but since I didn't even think it would work I am well pleased.

Advice...be persistant but not too eager. It's a recession for everyone and she was desperate for the sale! While I was paying she refused a discount to a man who wanted a watch too so be nice and smile )))
