Undeclared income PT work

in Cutting tax
Am employed FT, but occasionally see clients on a part time basis.
The income from this is v low, say £200 for 06 and same for 07, and approx 600-800 for 08. I will obviously declare the earnings from 08, and want to for 06 and 07 but cant see how without incurring penalties etc.
It really is a case of me having my head in the sand and not fully understanding the system, I thought could earn small ammounts tax free without declaring

Have you ever filled in a tax return - or more specifically did you fill in a Tax return for the tax years affected? They would be 05-06, 06-07 and 07-08 so far.
If not then you might get away with it. You would need proof of earnings...
They can go back 7 years. The fact that your earnings initially were so low might work in your favour.
I would suggest that you ring them and ask for a form - but you've picked a busy time...
now you can pop round and do my back :rotfl:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Neva filed tax return of any kind, have notes and know what was paid etc.
In a few instances provided receipts of payment etc for health insurance reasons. Just thought could back date.
PS wud c u if u were more local in exchange for sum quality advice, wouldnt have to pay tax on dat lol
So sit up straight and put pillow in ur back!:rotfl:0 -
Well in that case I would get in touch - for small amounts they are NOT going to be punitive...
back's fine BTW - just worked out what you were seeing clients for;)
If you are running a business on the side, as it were, there will be deductions you can make...petrol etc.
I know some people will say 'don't bother' but one day they will find out. I used to declare catalogue commission and it was hardly anything...but I once got a tax return out of the blue and they do have systems for checking this stuff..
Your notes should be acceptable. It's when you don't keep any records they start to wonder. There are some tax bods on here - I am not one but have a bit of personal experience, that's why I posted.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
