Barginfan .... she got in Dundee so "it came from Scotland" :rotfl: :rotfl:

Very clever play on words - are you a lawyer, Lynsey?

  • A single malt is from a single cask of whisky from one particular distillery. Each malt has its own particular characteristics. Islay malts tend to be smokey, peaty. Speyside malts can be sweet.

A blend could be from several different casks and several different distilleries and several different regions, so that no particular character is obvious, but this doesn't make any blend any less pleasant.

However, due to price, a single malt is really one you should savour - and don't drown it in ginger ale  save that for the blend, if you must have it at all ;)

As my previous comment demonstrates, there can be an awful lot of snootiness around whisky and single malts, in particular ;)

If you're a real malt fan, take a look at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. They are very, very unsnooty and their tastings are real hoot!

    Whatever your poison, enjoy.

Sounds like a bargain - did you notice what size it was?

Its a 70cl bottle. It does come in its own tube packaging and it says it is
    The Famous Grouse
    Vintage
    Malt Whisky
    1992
    Distilled 1992 Bottled 2004
Certainly tastes like a single malt and not the blended stuff.
The Tesco shop was in Cleveleys.
  • I looked in Tescos at Wells, Somerset and also phoned Customer Services at Shepton Mallet. The only Famous Grouse whisky available is the ordinary blended version. They do not even have the single malt Grouse on their computer stock records. I was asked if I was sure the post referred to a Tesco. Unfortunately, Cleveleys is way too far for me to travel:(
