2 incomes and 2 tax offices

in Cutting tax
Hi - i'm hoping someone can help. I receive 2 incomes and each of my employers has a different tax office. Each year i complete a self assessment and both incomes are declared correctly. The only problem is i keep getting coding notice changes from 1 tax office but not the other and hence they get out of step and i end up owing them tax!
I don't particularly want to pay them as i think they are in error with my tax coding as i've given them all my income details and employments.
I had thought that IR have a joined up system and can calculate my PAYE on both salaries.
Do i need to work with both tax offices or should they inform each other?

Is your total income over the higher rate limit?
If not, usually HMRC will allocate a 'normal' tax code to your main job which has the higher income and just tax the other at basic rate (BR code).I am an Accountant. Total is over higher rate. HMRC know this from my return so why can't they set coding correct on both jobs. to me it looks like they are not joined up hence needing to know if i deal with them individually?0 -
O.K. - everyone has a main tax district. In my day (perhaps still) it was known as a GCD (General Claims District) Contact the district appropriate to your main employer and tell them the full details. They will assume responsibilty for allocating your tax allowances.0

Its fairly easy to check whether your tax is correct .. if you post up the full details I'm sure someone will check it for you.
If your combined salary is greater than the 40% band but neither individual salary is and the salaries vary throughout the year its impossible to get the tax correct because the tax is worked out by your employers payroll system that aren't joined up.0
