Client gone into Administration HELP

Don't know if I am posting this in the right place, but I am desperado! I work freelance, long standing client of 6 years has "gone into Administration". They have NOT listed me as an outstanding debt, the MD/owner/personal friend said he would pay me personally. (That as 4 months ago). He has now made all staff redundant (most have gone freelance and are now working for him again on a self employed basis). He is constantly setting up businesses ( 4 in last 12 months) and then going into administration when they fail. I am sure I am not the only small supplier that has suffered. Client is in UK, I am in mainland Europe. Not sure where to start to recover the debt. Can anyone suggeset advice or where to go to get advice. They owe me for 6 months work. He has such a high profile (winning awards for his so called innovative brands) that I am thinking of going public with the story. But wonder how that would effect my claim.
Apologies for the long winded rant .... but I don't know where to turn.
