Broken Imported PSP

Any legal eagles out there know what my rights and options would be with regards to a broken Ceramic white PSP which was bought from savastore.com (via a link from these boards) back in November when it was looking like the only way to get one for my son for Christmas.
I am lead to believe that Sony will not entertain warranty claims for imported PSP's which this clearly is, but what about the responsibilty of the seller ie sales of goods act etc.
The on off switch no longer works so although there is power to the darned thing it won't switch on.
Anyone know where I stand before I approach them?

The seller is responsible in this case savstore. It is up to them to send the goods to Sony for repaire if possible, if that cant be done they should provide you with another item, under the sale of goods act.
http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm
" It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract."
"• If repair and replacement are not possible or too costly, then the consumer can seek a partial refund, if they have had some benefit from the good, or a full refund if the fault/s have meant they have enjoyed no benefit"0 -
What do the T&Cs say regard what law the contract is made under?
If english law then, in addition to what poppycat said, it is also deemed for the first six months from purchase that any fault was with the machine when it was sold. This means you dont have to prove that it was faulty when purchased.
Best to look at DTi website as it has good guides on your rights etc."...So...we've got a drop off, a double-cross, an ambush and then what?...then they shot a tramp..." :rotfl: [High Heels and Low Lifes]0 -
You would have to check with the company as with the PSP being an "imported" item Sony make the owner bear all the costs in sending the faulty PSP and returning it so I don't know if the company would try and get out of it and the warrenty only exists in the country it was designed to be sold in i.e. Japan.
If they are any sort of company they should replace it as I know when the PSP lauched in Japan a website called Lik Sang was selling the units to the UK and upon finding problwms with buttons they replaced units for the customers but you had to pay to send it back.
I sold my imported PSP last month as I hardly used it and in the back of mind I knew I was stuffed if anything happened to it regarding the repair of the unit as I also got someone to bring it back from Japan with them0 -
Thanks for the replies, I just the following email to Savastore, I suspect their initial response will be to ignore it and hope I go away.
Any feedback re this email gratefully accepted
Dear Sir/Madam
I would like to inform you that one of the two Sony PSP which I ordered from you on 29 Oct 05 has now developed a fault with the on/off switch rendering it totally unplayable.
The order number for this item was XXXXXXXX
Would you please advise me of your preferred method of returning this item in accordance with my statutory rights under the following legislation,
Sale of Goods Act 1979. Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.
As per this link http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm
My understanding is that this item is not covered by any form of warranty from Sony as it is imported by you from Japan and in any case responsibility for the fault lies with the supplier not the manufacturer.
I would therefore inform you that it is my intention to return this faulty product for a full refund or replacement at your discretion and would ask that you advise me of your returns procedure.
I look forward to your early response,0 -
Sounds fine the letter. I am sure they are hoping you go away. Perhaps send it recorded delivery indicating that you would prefer them to contact with in a reasonable time frame ie 7 days by email, letter.
If that fails do the same again recorded indicating to them that they have a further 7 days form the date of letter (mention your previous letter to show you being reasonable) and that if you haven't heard by then it is with deep regret that it is your intention to seek redress in the small claims court.
Savestore if my memory serves me right are owned by Watford electronics who have a bad reputation so cover yourself and much as possible.0 -

I've always found Savastore to be pretty good. Have you approached them already and had a negative response? I would have done that before doing anything here, especially posting the above.
Good luck with the fix/replacement - I was lucky enough to get a UK model from Argos for my lad but was under similar "pressure"!Can I help?0
