Is best to transfer my SERPS pensions into my work pension

Many years ago I opted out of SERPS and opened a stakeholder pension with HSBC. Many years later I opted back into SERPS. The HSBC pension currently is worth about £7500. I work for the Police and have a county council pension with them. Should I transfer this money to my works pension?

You can ask them if they will take it. Many final salary schemes will not take protected rights though. I dont know about yours.

  • I did ask Hampshire County council and had to complete a form which I sent to HSBC. They have sent me a transfer form and Inland Revenue forms. transferring protected rights from one appropriate personal pension/appropriate stakeholder pension to another, an request for sontracted out deduction (COD) calulation and transferring protected rigths from an app personal pension/ (appshp) scheme to a contracted out money purchase/ contracted out mony purchase stakeholder ension scheme. i was in my twenties when I opted out and didn't really understand the implication or even now. Will this effect my state pension if I tranfer to my work pension, is it worth doing. Sorry so many questions but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
