Income tax help

I have today been told by my employer that they need proof I was working during a specific time.
The company that employed me are not playing ball and my HR department said there is a website that will let you input your details and give you a print off showing that you were paying tax during that period.
Does anyone know of anything like this?
If I can't get a print out of the tax I was paying to prove I was working I no longer have a job.
I have no wage slips from that job as it was a long time ago.
HELP!
