Marriage after BR...

My partner and I were both declared bankrupt earlier this month. We had a real tough time of things in the build up, as I am sure everyone did. My OH borrowed a ring off of his mum and proposed to me on Xmas day and it was the best news I could ever have hoped for, it cemented our relationship in what had become a really tough time.
I want to get married as soon as possible, and I was wondering if we could do it while we are still bankrupt? I have Easter Sunday in mind, we want a very small wedding, no church or anything... and my brother has offered to pay for it (I lost both my parents at a young age). Is this feasible, or do I need to be more realistic and wait until after we are discharged? We wouldn't be using our money, but I am aware that the official reciever wants to know if we are given any gifts, which I guess this would class as....
What does everyone think? Should I take my rose tinted glasses off?

If it is what you want, then do it.
Normal gifts won't be classed as assets, but if someone wants to give you £1,000's then tell them to wait until later.
Congratulations anyway. I hope you are very happy. :beer:Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks fermi. I guess I am not worried about wedding gifts, but would the OR be interested in the fact that my brother is paying for the wedding? Because I fear that may be classed as a gift in itself. If only we had someone who wanted to give us £1,000's!! It will be a million miles from that amount, probably a couple of hundred I guess for a registry office.0

A wedding!!! Oooooo......
What a lovely offer from your brother (unless he is like mine and you would find out after the event that you are expected to pay it back - LOL!!)0 -
Skylight, thank you! It will be a very small affair if we go ahead, I just wanted to get peoples opinions on whether or not we could really do it. My brother is fantastic, he has been like a father to me over the years, I think to be honest he sees it as his duty! Even so I may wish to pay him back later on in life, he has been very supportive through this whole bankruptcy process.0

Not a problem. Honest!
We have had people here who have gone on very expensive holidays after BR where a relative or loved one has paid. It is up to them what they do with their money.
Obviously it's best for them to make sure it all goes through in their name, but otherwise it is none of the OR's business.
