Where to go Shopping in London
G'day all
I am an Aussie who's just come across and I need to know where the best (cheapest) places are to go shopping. At home we have just like giant malls where everything is. In london it seems like you guys just put shops where ever. What is the best way of finding out where to go and if that place has like the shop that i'd like. I Live out in Balham and the shops there are just a bit dire. I need to know somewhere that has like a Primark, H&M etc so I can get some winter stuff.

Welcome to London
You could try the new Westfield Shopping Centre. It is a huge mall as you call them. I have not been myself yet. It only opened just before Christmas: -

Kingston is good for shopping also. It has a mall and also lots of little shops scattered around. http://www.kingstononline.co.uk/shopping.htm
If you want an experience try Camden Lock. Lots of markets and unusual shops: http://www.camdenlock.net/
Some will also say the West End of London.0 -

Croydon has a really good selection of shops in the Whitgift Centre and the Centrale shopping centre, which are right next to each other, on opposite sides of the highstreet.
There is a massive Primark there and a TK Maxx too.
From Balham, Croydon is a 5 minute train ride away on the mainline service.0 -
There's a Primark in Tooting if you are ever in a rush! down towards tooting broadway tube.
I live in Balham and I agree with you on the shopping front! But I like it as it means I spend a lot less than I would otherwise...
Personally we usually go on the train to Kingston for shopping, it has all the usual high st shops (inc primark and h&m, and also quite a lot of outdoor shops for skiwear) and isn't as busy as oxford st.
have only been to croydon once and it was SOSOSO busy, much prefer kingston but as above poster says croydon is much closer.0 -
I live between Kingston & Croydon but for bargains Croydon usuallly does better but Kingston has a different range of shops.0

Oxford Street (Marble Arch end) is probably your best bet I'm afraid. Sunday at 12noon is usually fairly quiet, otherwise it can be tooooooo busy. There's a H&M on the opposite side of the road to Primark, not sure if it does menswear though. I think there's a designer menswear sample sale in Islington this weekend too. Hang on will get a linky...

I also live in balham and go to clapham junction for local shops - debenhams has most concessions eg topshop, oasis, warehouse etc. It has an entire floor of mens stuff in the basement (I think!) theres also a tk max and if you go along northcote road you'll find the likes of fat face and jack wills.
Avoid oxford circus and westfield at the weekend. high street ken is a much better bet - less people. or go to covent garden - long acre and neal street have some good shops and most tourists don't go there for shopping. if you are going into oxford street, get there early and leave by 12pm if you want to keep your sanity!!

Also H & M on Long Acre by Covent Garden if you find the Oxford St one too hideous.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0

Putney is also quite close with a few good shops - I always head to Oxford St to go to Primark if I'm honest because it's just so big!
Also near you, Putney, Wimbledon and Wandsworth are all goodEnd of 2010 I was £8,007.66 in debt
Today's total: £7,297.06
