Returning to the UK

Hi, I have just returned to the UK after living in Spain for over 5 years. I am just 60 and my wife is 56 and whilst there we paid into the Spanish system called "Autonomo" which is similar to NI contributions. I have absolutely no idea what my entitlements are as even the DSS are vague, we are renting at present as our house has not sold in Spain. We are both looking for work and although both of us are professionals it is obviously very difficult due to the economic problems. I would be grateful if anyone has either experience of this or knowledge of the best way to find our what if any entitlements we are eligible for.
