Self Assesment Married Couple

in Cutting tax
Hi There,
I am just completing my self assesment thingy. I live abroad with my wife but still need to declare a 2007/2008 income for the UK. However, I am not sure I understand the Tax Allowance rules for married couples. I tried to read them from HMRC but got muddled up. My wife and I got married in the UK in August 2007. She did not and does not work. We both left the country in October 2007. Any ideas of what we are entitled to claim?
Thanks a million
M

If your wife does not work then she pays no tax
Your tax position is largely unaffected by marriage0 -
Are there no allowances for married couples? I thought we would get an extra allowance of £2000 something since we are both dependant on one salary0

No there aren't unless your well into retirement age when the married couples allowance remains - something like for those aged 80 or so.0 -

This tells you all about married couples allowance. Either you are your wife needs to have been born before 6th April 1935 to be entitled to it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
