Speechless! Right - just off to give some helpful advice.
  • sorry to say that if you ever work with children or in the care field the caution will show up on an enchanced crb check.

  • Hi, the good news: i got a caution, meaning i have no criminal convictions!!

the bad news: i am unemployed and am going to struggle to get back into employment due to the grounds of my dismissal from my previous employer.

i thought it would be best to approach any potential employer by way of not letting them know my reason for dismissal until it gets to the interview stage, that way if they like how i come across, it may sway their view on my previous stupidity... what do you think?

  • Put your CV up on Monster, Totaljobs and CVlibrary. There is always the possibility of being headhunted.

I am a recent graduate and have had several calls from people who have had my CV. Can't say I have been offered anything amazing, but it's better than nowt!
  • Yes, I agree - put something like 'problems with immediate manager/managment structure/internal procedures - to be explained more fully at interview'. But I would recommend getting a voluntary post while you are looking, as this will provide a useful positive second reference (and might even lead to a job, you never know!)

I'd recommend not putting your reason for leaving your last job on your CV - you'll probably get asked about your reasons for leaving in an interview, at which point you'll be able to explain things better, but putting what jobbingmusician suggests might well put off recruiters from inviting you in for an interview.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, when I'm looking at CVs, if a reason for leaving is not mentioned, that's absolutely fine and won't affect me inviting someone in for an interview but if a suspicious/dodgy sounding reason is given, then that might well discourage me from inviting someone in (the amount of CVs people get for any job means it doesn't take much for your CV to be ditched).

Hi, the good news: i got a caution, meaning i have no criminal convictions!!

I think you will find a caution will still appear on CRB check though.
  • All employers/agencies will ask for your most recent employers (usually 2/3) then ring/write to them for reference.
Cautions are logged on the police national computer and are listed on CRB checks to show you have been into contact with the police and received a caution.
