Which area of the country would you return to?
What are your top 5 skills/services that you offer?

Just to give people a bit of a clue so they can answer in a more precise way.

West Midlands, particularly Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire borders.

My skills are masonary, pitched and flat roofing, fencing and tree work although I do handle all the obvious stuff like painting and garden maintenance too. I also offer man and van hire.

  • there is still work about but as has been said people have tightened there belts .Your biggest problem i can see would be starting off from scratch in this nervous climate im not saying it couldnt be done but wouldnt be as easy as a few years ago .One other problem is the slow down in construction which is pushing tradesmen into the domestic building work .also theres the foreign nationals who will work for nothing and live 10 plus in a 2 bed terrace .hope this doesnt sound to gloomy best of luck

your skills are varied and give you a good scope of work i would say you would be looking between £60-100 a day possibly more as self employed but then compare cost of living would the change be worth it only you can answer that .we work all over greater manchester and have found there has been no set pattern of work for the last 4 years ie used to get work/enquires from certain areas but now it can be anywhere meaning more travel for both pricing and fitting

That sounds very positive given the current conditions. If i could achieve 3 days works per week at your average of £80 per day I would be better off than I am now. Ill have to look in to running a tax exempt transit on home made bio diesel for making my rounds!
