How are we going to come out of Recession?

This is mainly for the generali, as we do not make anything to export, dont dig anything out the ground, how can we possibly come out of this recession?

We better find some of that 'knowledge economy' Broon was talking about, or else we are all screwed!

Or are we all starting to realise that the city never was able to back magic oodles of cash from nowhere?

I actually think we will do pretty well out of the big carbon lie, doing what we do best, consulting on solutions to problems that dont exist, whilst taking other countries money off them, wind turbines, carbon emissions credits blah blah blah...

Pharma will do us well, as will BAT and north sea oil whilst it lasts. Rolls Royce, Novel ways of getting ever increasingly scarce oil out of the ground. One thing for sure though, our 2007 standard of living has gone for a long, long time. Weapons/Defence sales is also a strong point of ours (example of best of british here punching its way through carbon steel reinforced concrete 3 metres thick http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7s74pmpHlvA) , as we are world leaders in a few technologies, as well as advanced electronics for aircraft and industry.

We wont do it though panering to the weak in society and pretending that we can all have an equal standard of living. Benefits should be cut to 0 for all those not willing to work (not talking about those that cant work) as well as a limit on extra benefits for those who chose to pop out a million litle chavettes. Say a max of 2. More working tax credits, less lifelong doleites (NOT talking about the poor unfortunates that deserve every single penny of JSA and a lot more that have recently lost their jobs).

The problem with limiting the amount of money paid to families with more than 2 kids is child poverty, the gov is already falling short of their eradicating child poverty targets and by limiting child payments, especially to families living on welfare alone will further more dwindle the life chances of those children.

To put it bluntly the kiddlets that come from poor/deprived homes are less likely to successed in life, which goes no way to creating an equal fair and happy society. Long term there would also be further generations living in poverty, further perpetuating the cycle.

There are some families for whom children are a generator of extra income and also a guarantee of long-lasting work-free income. I've done Tax Credit calculations for large families on benefit. Usually, by the time they get to 5 kids (which a surprising number do), it's not financially viable to work.

To be better-off, some families need £750-£800 net per week (this for an adult who may not have worked for 20 years).

I can see the employers queueing-up even now :rolleyes:

Well I belive we seem to be going through a stage of opening more coal mines, We dig that out of the ground.

We have some big global companies such as BP, BT, Vodafone, Pharmaceuticals. The problem I see is that the Government seem to still be putting all their eggs in the financial services basket and I can't see that market ever being the same as 2007, the game has changed. It's going to be a painful process of paying down and writing off debt. Who knows, I don't think anyone does at this time, especially those in charge!

Too put it bluntly, maybe they should stop having children after having 2 they can't afford in the first place?

Poverty simply does not exist in this country. I'm sorry. Poor people do though.
