Question: is training tax deductable?

Hi. I am a full time employee and am studying for an MBA. I am paying for most of myself as the company will only pay about 20%. I understand that if the training is necessary for my current job - which it is - then its tax deductable. I have the admin details from the tax officwe but I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me word the "why is the training applicable to my job" to maximise my chance of getting the rebate -thanks.

The actual wording is wholly exclusively and necessarily for your current employment, which makes it extremly difficult to claim releif on such things as courses.

It will be argued by HMRC that an MBA won't be used exclusively for your current employment, and therefore you can't calim releif on it. It may be necessary for your current job, so passes on that one, but all three criteria need to be met.

You can read more about it here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/senew/SE32525.htm

You are unlikely to get relief on this. However, If in doubt I always stick to the phrase - if you don't ask, you don't get. The worst that can happen is that they say no, so you don't have anything to loose by asking.

Sorry to hijak thread, but if unemployed can this be offset against tax for year ? i.e. training paid for by self to secure employment ?
