Dont know if this has ever been posted but unusual situation.
Friend claims unemployment benefit and lives alone
partner works
they dont live together and dont want to( its not the benefits reason btw they just are happy the way they
If they got married but didnt live together would it make any difference to friends benefit.

Shouldn't affect them if they are living separately, couples who are married split up and claim benefit separately. You can actually live in the same property and claim if you can prove you live a seperate life.0

It will very much affect them !
Benefit regulations do class people as couples even if they live apart. The rules are not clear cut simply to say we live separately and benefit therefore follows.
People can live apart but be classed as a couple.
The benefit decision maker has to consider many things, not just addresses when determining decisions on what is a couple.
They key question really is this..
Do they class themselves as a couple ?
If that's a yes then they shoudn't be claiming benefit.
