  • daughters photographer quoted £2000 ! this was for albums where the pics are printed directly on to the book , 1 for the couple , 1 each for the parents and 4 smaller ones ...........when pushed he revealed he could do a smaller package for £450 , tbh where do wedding albums end up ? .....in a drawer rarely seen, you really dont need loads of pictures to remember the day .

We know someone who bought the cake from M&S and decorated theirselves , and thats what dd will be doing ( who eats cake anyway lol )

Hi there - we are buying a cake from a supermarket and decorating it ourselves, thus too saving some money x

  • Re photos - isn't this is a relic from the days when cameras were rare and film was expensive? Surely now all that's needed is to ask everyone to bring their own digital cameras and take LOTS of photos, and upload them to photobucket.com, flickr or facebook, or just emailed to the happy couple. Out of a few hundred 'snaps' there will surely be a dozen you like enough to print out and put in an album?

I'm getting married next year, and whilst I want a nice wedding I dont want to blow a load of money on a single day, unneccessarily. I dont know much about weddings.

I've booked a venue, which is a golf club where we will have the ceremony and reception. Cost is £500 for ceremony, £30 per head for meal, £10 per head for buffet, no charge for room hire.

    So I'll be needing:

    Photographer
Flowers - bunch for bride and bridesmaids?
    Cake
    Wedding Dress
    Bridesmaids outfits
    Groom and best man outfits
    One car for bride
    Rings
    Table decorations
    Invitations
    DJ
    What else?

If anyone can tell me what they spent on the above, and set me some challenging target prices it would be great. Hints and tips for doing it on the cheap!

I know I haven't given much detail, but think 'nice' rather than posh! I'd rather spend money on inviting more people or our honeymoon, than on extravegencies or unneccesaries that I can avoid.

    Thanks!
I would love to help but unfortunatly our figures are off as I made 90% of my wedding items inc our rings they should of cost £1500 but I spent £150 for personal rings congratulations and good luck tho

I guess that's a personal choice - I'd rather supply a set of images that I'm completely happy with than a bucket load of jpegs straight out of the camera; it's probably not a great business model though. The wider point is when you see a photographer charging, for example, £60 per hour of attendance at a wedding, it may well be that every image you'll get back from that hour has incurred a significant amount of additional work and time after the wedding itself. That said, if you look at a photographers images and don't think 'wow, uncle bob could never have done that', maybe they're not worth the money they charge.

Im sorry ote but may you should get your picture right in the camera then you perhaps would not have charge so much for your time spent in photoshop. I charge £60 an hour and spend a few hours in photoshop not 50 hours... I put plenty of work in pictures post wedding get them perfect but never more than a day...!!!

And theres nothing wrong with a bucket load of really good JPEGS..!!! showing all the details and moments of a wedding alot of which the bride and groom would miss..

My best advice to all you brides speak to the photographer make sure you like them as you'll be spending part of the biggest day of your life with them.. Judge there pictures and pick a style you like..ask to see more work if feel you've seen too little. And you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good professional photographer... You also might get a reduction for a mid week as have very few mid week weddings this year...
  • I got my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses from

    www.mydreamweddingdress.co.uk
