Fury as Northern Rock's 4,000 workers to get £8.8million in bonuses

I bet expectations have been raised a little amongst the RBS group's 30,000 staff but I'm sure for nothing!0

Pathetic drivel from the usual Tory media.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

For example, if the total pay bill was £100,000,000, the salaries would be £90M and £10M 'held back' for the bonuses (or is it boni?). Miss the targets and the bank keeps the money. Hit the targets and the money is paid.
And the taxman gets more of the bonus money than if it was paid as part of the salary.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Probably not, due to the way NI is calculated on a monthly basis so the chances are that minimal NI will be paid.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. but where is the bonus to the tax payer for thier part , do other civil servants get any?And thats what nr is right now as long as its nationalised part of the civil service.
quite right im a civil servant in the jobcentre and we are working our !!!!!s off to process claims and pay benefits to the millions of unemployed ! we were understaffed before and most of us are working doing 2 peoples jobs for 1 low salary. we will not be getting any bonus for our hard work! and if we did there would be public outrage!0 -
NO BONUSES:mad:
They should think themselves lucky they still have a job! and if they are not happy leave and see if they can get a job elsewhere at the moment.
Absolute joke.0 -

Yes, think about them on JSA.. lazy people should get a job!!!
It's pointless argument. Most smart people have jobs that involve a bonus and have no problem with a bonus - I have a "loyalty" bonus - aka a golden handcuff.
many NR staff can't be blamed for people overborrowing and getting stuck on high SVRs0 -
If the Daily Mail spent more time reporting news than opining on it, the UK would be a far happier place.
The ordinary folk at NR deserve every penny, having shown great professionalism, in stark contrast to the shower of ex-board members and directors, who bankrupted the company.
But back to the Mail...
Why gratutitously wind up reactionary nobodies? Are the shouts of 'political correctness gone mad!' not already loud enough from 'Outraged' of Tunbridge Wells?
Maybe it's time for another round of 'Save the Pound' (the currency no-one else wants), 'attack the foreigner' ('cept the one buying the Evening Standard) or 'increase spending on the army' (but only when Labour's in power, otherwise keep schtum.)
Out and out hypocrites, representing most of what is wrong about Britain.RIP independent MSE.

good to see out tax dollars at work- rewarding people for putting right what they caused to start with..
any bonuses should only paid when ALL the debt is paid, and they are back in profit.
also, are these bonuses on top of any overtime done recently..?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
simple answer for the person in the benefits office that doest like the bonus for nr staff and "think" you are overworked and underpaid.... simply dont work there then.
Get to a strike vote , you do have the biggest union in the uk now so use them before the tories get in next election....but bear in mind the miners thought they couldnt be stopped neither , and theirs was the biggest too at the time.
Perhaps all the benefits jobs should be filled with only the former "actual" unemployed doing them in work to benefits .... that will take a load off the civil service wage bill....and half your two person workload.Maybe it should be a form of national service for a couple of years , rather than a "job with security".
Another fact that bugs me about benefits office staff in general is that they insist you take any job offered , and at any time of the day.Well how about the benefits\civil service workers doing the same? There would be a !!!!!!! walkout if benefits and tax offices were trully 24 hrs like the unemployed "have to take".Me I would at least open them 10-10 then watch them stab each other in the back for the best flexi time that suits them.
I have warned for years that the last two generations needed to feel hardship , well pucker up generation xy and z because here it comes. No more luxury goods , no more second cars , no more holidays in the sun. This is the price you pay for credit , this is the price you pay for slavery by mortgage , this is the price your children will pay for this country not making anything but importing everything.....and the worst thing of all that it imported was other countries bad debts.
Still we could all be in gaza , zimbabwe , ethiopia et al ......their website would have to be moneyhavingexpert com. with a sub forum of living off flies for a week. Makes you think dunnit.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0
