    The losses don't seem too big, so perhaps only a small amount of the fund was invested in mortgage-backed securities.

    Have you looked at the main thread associated with this (its only one line up)?

    The point is (IMHO) that a fund that crawls along making at best 3-4% gain in a year should not be losing 5% in one day!
