Another welcome thread
In sept 08 I got car finance, i was in a good well paid secure job so I thought. Everything was good untill I was laid off in dec 08, I managed to get another job to return to after xmas but it has drastically cut my finances down, and i'm struggling with the payment now. I need the car to get to my new job so I would if possible like to keep the car. I have tried asking company if I can go on a lower payment scheme or something but they are refusing to budge and are demanding full payment every month or they will get an attachment of earnings. I am willing to pay and can afford about £200 per month. I just want to know where I stand here? they won't budge abit. Its not that I dont want the car cos I do and I want to pay for it, its just financially I cant afford the agreed amount. As it stands i'm not in arrears, this months payment is due on the 29th and i'm struggling to make the full payment, I have informed them that I cannot afford the full amount and have agreed a lower amount and he has said he will inform me of my options when I pay the amount agreed. I just want to know my rights before I go any further. My credit isn't great so I had no choice. But like I say I don't want to cancel the agreement, I would if possible like to honour it and pay for the car in full. I even asked my previous employer if my job was secure and told him of my intention to buy a car on HP, he assured me my job was secure and to go ahead, then 2 months later he announced there would be lay offs and my department was worst hit, with only 4 or 5 people keeping there jobs out of 50+ staff. I wish that I had made a claim now with the insurance I took out through wcf, I could have got my payments made for a year well I looked to find a better job, but I was in such a rush to get any job, so I did.
Do I have any rights here or can they just do the attachment of earnings if I dont pay the full amount per month?
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Why can you not claim on the PPI policy you said that Welcome sold you?
They are a crafty lot and if you had that cover you need to check it out. They will not be honest with you so get advice from this site rather than listening to them, they lie!!!0 -
That claim is well underway, started that in december using this site. But since then I lost my so call well paid 100% secure job, 2 weeks before xmas, so you can guess where most of my savings went. Like I said I got another job asap due to worry, but I have to comute 30 miles a day now which I need the car for.0

How much is the original monthly payment and over how long did you take the loan?

The original patyment is £346.54, I could easilly afford this so I opted for a lower payment period over 4 years, the interest is stupidly high I know, but I was on a salary of 24k a year in the last job, the new job is 18k a year. I'm looking for another job still and have discussed all this with welcome, but untill I find something that pays similar to my old job im abit stuck. I have phoned them repeatedly trying to discuss all this with them, they keep telling me how there company has had to lay off 1000 people and at the moment are just trying to recoup all moneys owed in, they also say at my branch that they have had power to negotiate with customers taken away from them so they can do nothing for me except collect the correct monthly payment of £ 346.540
