Urgent advice needed my husband is classed as self employed he has a lease on a public house and the debts are huge. This week already we have had 3 bailiffs at the door and no doubt there will be more. As well as letters from debt collection agencies there are also nasty phone calls from a company called wescott. I have tried a few debt lines each say unable to help with being self employed. We are both scared and can not sleep and the word bankruptcy fills us with sheer dread maybe its just the unknown. Where do we go from here and is there anyone we can turn to for any advice would be greatly appreciated

  • My husband was self employed when we first started looking into bankruptcy and the CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service) were fantastic so I would give them a call. My husband also got some help from business debt line - maybe they could help you too xx

Hi there, Definitley give Business debt Line a try, my husband did last year when he went Bankrupt and they were very helpful as were the CAB.
He also had a lease on a pub and the debts we had were enormous, there was no way we could have ever dug ourselves out that hole.Bankruptcy was our only option and we have no regrets at all,it seemed scary at the time but was definitely the right choice for us. It should really not make any difference whether you are self employed or not for any advise you get.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask away or pm me

Hubby and I also self employed and the CCCS have been great (have to ring them tho as they cant help you online if your self employed) They also put us in touch with a legal advice centre called SSTAC who are hopefully going to take us through the BR procedure, they have also been so helpfull over the phone. The BR word used to fill me with dread too but the more peoples accounts and stories I read the better I feel! Nice to know were not alone! x
;) Heres to a brand new start!!;)

You seem a bit more positive now catdavlee, I am sure you will feel much better when your husband has spoken to an advisor. They will give you both some real help, I am sure, and we are here to support you.

    Good Luck for today.... ;)
