BR and the utilities!

Hi all
Belated happy NYs all round.
Chances are I'm going to go BR owing npower (gas and elecky) and BT (phone line) money. I'm trying to pay a bit off but no so as the OR notices.
Does anyone know what happens if I do owe them at BR? I'm going to rent afterwards and am going to need utilities obviously!
Will they want a deposit? I've heard mention of card or key systems but it's unlikely my new landlord will want me mucking about with their supply.
I know I've seen this subject in a thread before but can't seem to find it, so advice gratefully rec'd!
Thanks and best wishes

The bills will be included in your BR. Will you be moving out before your BR date?? Ensure that you call your providers on the day you move out with correct readings and follow this up in writing - this should help sort out the final bill.
New suppliers may want a deposit. Some may not. I have changed supplied during my BR and nothing went wrong. Its the key meters that worry me! They are far more expensive than usual payment methods. You pay more per unit plus most charge a "hire" for the key meter. Your Landlord may not want a meter fitted or he may be happy to have one - as it means there will not be a debt at his property. If you do go down the key meter route, look at Ebico as a supplier - they charge one single rate for any payment method and there is no additional charge. But with all, compare the lot!0 -
Hi I asked a similar question on here last week, like skylight has said the arrears will form part of your bankruptcy, you should be able to get a normal direct debit billing in future but may have to pay a deposit.
There have been a lot of posts on here regarding British Gas putting people on meters despite there being no debt (just because they are bankrupt) so avoid them. I also owe n power and have been advised to try EDF or Powergen xxI cant change the past, but the future is mine to play with!

I had a debt with npower (£70 gas and £70 electric) but changed suppliers just before my bankruptcy to EDF and didn't have to pay anything up front, dreading the winter bills though!Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0
