Hi Ya
I need some advice please..
I have my appointment at the court on Thursday, Forms are all filled in applied for a new bank account with tho co-op last week which was approved on the phone, got told that my welcome pack would come in the post within 3-5 days.. so I have hung on and waited , I needed to tell my employers by tomorrow latest 12pm for my wages to be paid in.
So I just called the Co-op to get a status update on my account and I have just been told that it has been declined.. how can that be?? The lady on the phone did say that I could appeal but I was just upset I just couldnt talk and said that it didnt matter and put the phone down.
I feel soo angry and sick now because everything seemed like it was going so well.. (it did seem seem to good to be true)

Hi there JH1985,
I am sorry to hear that your Co-op account has been declined. The most immediate problem is obviously your wages. Do you have a relative or anyone you trust that you can have it paid into their account while you are sorting things?
Will your company pay you a cheque just for this month. They should have a plan in place for when someone doesn't have a viable bank account (for any reason) - what would they normally do?
With the Co-op issue, are you on the electoral roll? Do you have CCJ's?
Have you tried opening a Barclays account. It does take a bit longer, but if you can think of no good reason why it has been declined it may be worth a go.
Your immediate concern is finding somewhere or you wages to go while you sort the other bits out.
Try not to worry too much - you are on the BR rollercoaster - it is all ups and downs I am afraid, but it will be worth it in the end.
And you will get there!
Good Luck

Thats a real shame and we do hear this time to time but i would appeal as you hear often how they change there minds so i would do that.
If you have a problem with barclays you could apply for a prepaid card like the Virgin one i have and you can have you wages paid onto that.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Thanks for the advice, i'm just panicing because the cut off date for my wages is tomorrow! ahhh man! I cant believe how stressed I feel right now!
I'm not sure if my wages can be paid into another account.. :-( how long do you think my existing bank account (with nationwide) will be frozen for?0 -

I honestly wouldn't take a chance on it being "defrosted" - we really only think of the Co-op and Barclays basic accounts as the BR friendly ones.
I think you need to think of a different solution - just a temporary one - until you can get an account opened with one of the above or as k2nga says - even a prepaid card.

You could take a chance with Nationwide, but it would be a gamble. If you do take this chance you need to empty it asap when your salary is paid in. The Nationwide WILL freeze your account, they trawl the London Gazette. It happened to me. If you urgently need an account, some of the pawn brokers offer a pre paid card you can get over the counter. I would appeal to the co-op, it is rare that they refuse anybody without a goood reason, are you sure you applied for the basic account and not something else?0

While you are sorting this out you can get your wages paid into a trusted relations bank account. Do you have any one who will help you out. There are several members on here who have done that.
Ring Co-op and try to establish why it was refused. Did you owe them money? Are you on the electrol register? Do you have a CIFAS on your credit files? Did the representative try to open a normal account and not a Cashminder account.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Thank you all for your help with this, sorry I havent replied sooner, I ended up getting home from work and crashing out :-)
The stress of it all has just worn me out soo much!!!
Before leaving work yesterday I found the courage to ring the co-op back and ask them about appealing. The kind lady gave me the address. I then asked why I would have been refused.
It ended up being it was because the lady that had tried opening the account had put on the application that I had been living at my present address for 23 years!!! I couldnt believe it!!!!!
This has now been amended and the lady that I spoke to is now pushing for the account to be opened as soon as possible, by the time I had called the deptartmenet that would be opening the account was shut!
I have spoken to my accounts department and the a cheque is going to be made up instead. Im now going to have to just call round all the companies that I normally pay on a monthly basis via dd and tell them that im changing bank accounts and they may be paid late. Going to nationwide at lunch to cancel all my SO and DD..

I am so pleased for you JH - Everything must be looking a whole lot better than it did when you started this thread!
See, a few heads put together and voila - there is always a different way even if sometimes it is the scenic route......
Good Luck with the Co-op
