Police 'Mission' Watch. Help needed setting functions

I treated myself to a Police 'Mission' watch for christmas and I am well pleased with it, apart from the fact that I cannot set the functions.

I have the 'Instruction Manual' (in numerous languages) but it is in diagrammatic form and I can't seem to get my head around it. I have tried pushing the buttons singly and in sequence and in pairs but to no avail.
I assumed it had a fault and had it replaced but just the same problem so I conclude it must be me  . There is only one repair agent and thats a PO Box in Birmingham who were unable/unwilling to help unless I sent the watch in. I've tried googling it and am now well able to set up a Neighbourhood Police Watch (and their mission statements) but can't find anything about a digital wrist watch
If anyone has one and can set it (I would particularly like to set the calendar) I would appreciate any advice.

Have you even read the instruction manual, link found on the link you provided???

OK without the watch I wouldn't be able to understand these instructions, but you have the watch, the buttons are labelled so it can't be that hard, surely?

A perfectly reasonable comment - I would have thought the same.
I have read the instruction manual (if you can call it that) several times but I can't make any sense of it as I say in my post. There are three buttons and each has different functions. You press the button and something happens? You press the button twice and something happens? You hold one button and press another and something happens? Unfortunately nothing happens so I am obviously doing something wrong or not doing something.
I was hoping that someone who had got one would point me in the right direction!
