P.S. this job will just cover my rent and council tax only, If i get this i would try to get another part time job.

would i still be entitled to any kind of benefit as i couldn't live on this one job alone ( so say i pay my own rent and c.t.would i still receive another benefit until i get another part time job which might be easier to get at the moment with the job market as it is.

    Thanks

'Cash in hand' is illegal, this employer sounds well dodgy and is trying to avoid putting you on his books.

  • You would need to register with inland revenue as self employed, then they will send you a self assessment tax form at the appropriate time. You will need to make sure you save the relevant amount of money to one side to pay your tax bill.
You will also need to pay your own NI stamp with the NI contributions centre in Newcastle. 084591 54655

If it is cash in hand, you are not responsible for paying your tax and NIC. As previous poster has said, this employer is dodgy and is trying to avoid NIC, holiday pay, NMW, sick pay, etc and you will have no employment rights. Its the employer's responsibility to deduct tax and NIC, not yours. On no account register as self employed as this is merely covering up his wrong-doing.
