Hello!
The date has been preliminarily booked – yay!
I think I’m probably boring the good souls on the Mortgage Free Board so I’ve come on here to bounce ideas and my thoughts with you friendly people.
OH proposed in November and we picked our date and venue on Saturday. We have a meeting arranged with the Registrars next Thursday to give our ‘notice’ and with the venue next Saturday to pay the deposit of £500.
Oh my god  then it’s arranging invitations, dealing with upset family members, organising the flowers, decorations and choosing a meal and the wine etc:eek:
Here be my Budget for you to have a look at:
Wedding Rings - £400
Wedding Dress - £148 - Paid
Veil - £10 – Just materials needed as Nan is making
Bridal Bouquet - £50
Bride's Beauty Treatments - £50
Bridesmaids' Dresses - £180 - Paid
Suits - £360 - Paid
Flowers - £200
Printing - £25 - DIY
Civil Fees - £300
Photography - £1000
Wedding Cake Stand - £20 – Booked
Wedding Reception - £3,000 – Quote seems to match this so far
Wedding Insurance - £50
Other Expenses -£175
TOTAL - £6,000.00
I’d originally budgeted £150 for the rings but have been informed that it’s not a good idea to have 9ct next to 18ct as the wedding ring will wear the engagement ring down and therefore the budget has jumped up.
I got my dress in the sale after umming and ahhing over a £700 dress which was lovely but I could bring myself to spend that much!
The bridesmaid dresses rose from an estimated £100 to £180:cool:
The suits rose from £300 to £360 as we actually bought the suits in a sale rather than hire.
My Wedding Cake is being made…Mum is making the fruit layer, MIL the black forest gateau layer and bro the chocolate cheesecake layer – we’re having it as dessert! :EasterBun
Have I missed anything out?
We haven’t included our honeymoon as we haven’t decided what we’re going to do yet.
Thanks for reading!

I'd found one to hire for £15 plus VAT and booked it
Then today I saw another one for £10 but it requires a £200 deposit.
I'm not sure what to do.

Check that your venue doesn't offer a free cake stand. My venue had a few 'comlimentary' things such as master of ceremonies, cake stand and knife, flower centrepieces in white and Ivory etc. The only requirement was that your wedding was for more that a certain number of people - in my case it was over 40 people. I'd check with them first!
Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j

Thanks Neeny. the Ivy does have a nice cake knife which we are going to use but their cake stand is for a 'stacked' cake and we need a 'floating' cake stand becuase of the types of cakes we want - I never seem to do things the easy way
I haven't asked them if they do any flowers though - shall do so when I see them next. OH's best friend is being our Master of Cermonies for the day as he couldn't justify having 3 best men :rotfl:
As we are just having a main meal for our wedding breakfast we have been quoted £18 a head which seems very good but none of the meals they offer jump out at me so I hope they taste ok!
I did have a brilliant idea - what about a yorkshire pudding tower for starters!?! :j My family have a thing about them and if the Ivy makes them fresh and yummy it would be a great way to start the meal and then the main doesn't matter so much. Do you think I'm crazy...
P.S. It seems impossible to find round cake boxes to cover the cakes for the photos - I wonder if they're hard to make...Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

SmlSave - ask the venue for a taste of the wedding breakfast - they should be able to offer you a tasting session that way you can decide if the food tastes nice or not and not just leave it to chance.
I notice that you have omitted transport from your list - how are you going to get to the wedding venue and to the reception venue?0 -
Hi Horace :hello: love your signature
When we go to the venue next Sat I will ask them how much it is for a tasting - hopefully free
- and can we taste a few of the mains, thank you for reminding me!
Neither of us care much about cars so we'll be getting lifts with family members very MSE of us
Also the venue lets us have a room to get changed in so I have excuse to be late :rotfl:
Forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't you set up your own organiser business Horace? how is it going?Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Bit annoyed that none of the florists I visited could give me a quote on calla lillies - apparently they fluxuate too much in price for them to be able to give a quote.
I would have liked one thou.
I've ended up going for the £10 cake stand with the £200 deposit. I've paid the £10 and the deposit is to make sure we return the stand. They have said that I can give them a cheque when I pick it up and they won't cash it unless I don't return the stand so my bank stays healthy!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Went the give 'Notice' at the Registry Office today. It was £60 to give notice and will be £250 for them to marry us - that's £25 cheaper than it would have been if we decided to get married on a Saturday

not bad eh?
Also I saw some nice boxes in a craft store near me, they are going to see if they can get the sizes I want so I have my fingers crossed - please, please, pleaseCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

We're going to have Sunday lunch there next week to take the family to have a look and hopefully get some ideas on how to decorate the place.
Have found some veiling fabric and just need to check the colour aginst the dress which is still at the shop.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
