The Tilda 500g bags are half price in Tesco's too - didn't see any 1kg bags though. Think it was £1.35 for the 500g bags.0

That is still horrendously expensive compared to store own brands, so why bother?
Tesco's own Basmati is £1.69 1kg, as is Asda and Sainsbury's, and there is nothing wrong with the quality of these own brands. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
in tesco apna basmati rice £4.99 for 5 kg :money: in aisle where they keep Asian food:cool:Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
Horrific price for small quantities! Buy the larger 5Kg packs as it keeps for ages and costs far less.0

If you have any asian shop areas, like Birminghams Soho Road or Smethwick you can pick up bargains on 5kg, 10kg and 20kg basmati rice (as well as milk and yogurt and other stuff) in most of the asian supermarkets. Most will sell Tilda but this isnt always the cheapest and they tend to stock many different brands al lot cheaper than Asda, Tescos, Morrisons and Lidle.if i had known then what i know now0

I like basmati rice, but I don't find it's the only good rice. There's some really good long grain rice available too, and surprisingly (but fortunately) some of it's in the Sainsburys basics bag, which is 73p for a Kg. It's much better than I expected. I can't really tell the difference. Nobody else noticed either when we changed from basmati to basics.0

I agree, try 1 of the Asian shops for a big big bag. Also bargain with the shop owner on the price to make it even cheaper!0

I also agree to source out a local asian supermarket as it will be far cheaper however we know that's not always possible - I don't expect there many to be in Aberdeen or Conwy for instance.
Having said that I think Tesoc have cooking oil for 10l for £7.50ish (possibly 2 for £7.42 glitch) and Asda have 5l Sunflower oil for £5 which I don't expect local shops to bear.0
